PLEASE PASS THE O+

It has been a long week for Kristin. Monday started off with a LP (lunbar puncture) with chemo at Renown. We were fortunate to have Kevin Lasko with her putting her to sleep. It was comforting to Kristin to have someone she knows and trust with her for these procedures. Dr. Lasko is wonderful! He invited me in with them and I was with her the entire time, even being his third hand as he put her off to sleep. I should have asked her some questions after her gave her the drugs. Maybe "when was your first kiss, what is your biggest secret?" Does anyone has any suggestions? As a result of the LP she has been left with a whopping spinal headache all week long.along with terrible nausea, and vomiting from the chemo.

We were told that this round of chemo would bring her numbers down in about a week and to take advantage of the small window of time and take her to dinner and have a few visitors, etc. so, she was able to go get that big juicey steak that she has been craving. She also went to school to say thank you for all of the t-shirt sales at the basketball game, and to a movie with friends. She also was able to go to church for sacrament meeting last week.

On Thursday we did labs and got a call Friday morning. Kristin needed a transfusion as her hemoglobin was low. They transfuse when her counts are lower that 7. (normal ranges between 12 - 15 for you and I.) She was at 6. She received 2 units and we were done around 10:30 that night. A long day! Thankfully she slept almost the whole time as she was in pretty bad shape when we arrived. This helped with her headache and nausea. I was impressed with Renown's staff and facilities.

Keep purchasing the "Team Kristin" shirts. Pine Middle School will be selling them this week and Hunsberger will be doing so also. We are so appreciative!

I have concluded that angels pray, angels have scissors, angels have anesthsia, angels have knowledge to share, angels make beautiful quilts, angels have PDA'S, angels bring dinner, angels carpool, angels take watch over left out kids, angels sell t-shirts, angels clean homes, angels have compassion, angels shovel snow, angels send letters, angels send walmart gift cards, angels send gas cards, angels make wigs........angels are around, behind, beside, above, and before Kristin strengthening her so that she can walk the path before her. I am a witness to this every day. "I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up"(d&c 84:88).

Gratefully,
Leslie

Hi Leslie, Kristin, et al - well duh - it's really pretty obvious when someone tells you what to do! Now I know - I'm lost without my computer whizzes at home all the time. Good luck with the headache, Kristin - they are the pits. I told your mom about the miracle cure and gave her a couple other pointers about being proactive :) Jennifer was impressed that they put you out for the spinals - she never was. They did put her out for bone marrow biopsies... after the first one. Her cell phone is 775-846-6660 if you ever want to talk to her. She feels for you going through this at 16. She was just out of 5th grade (5days into summer) when she was diagnosed. It really spoiled that summer for her.. as you know. Check out Okizu.org sometime - both my kids LOVE camp - it is like no other camp you've ever been to/heard of. Your doctors will be sure to give you a window to go if at all possible - that's how important they believe it is. SIBS (siblings)camp is in late June and early July - it's like a present you can give your little brothers. And it's FREE! If Eric wants to go, he'll have to go as a counselor or a dishwasher! Hope you are enjoying the warm sun - I hope it warms your bones :) I'm thinking positive thought all the time. Tomorrow I'll go over to Pine and buy a T-Shirt :) Our school (Smithridge)has just started Pennies for Patients, so I'll give my class a plug for you. Many of the have older siblings at Galena. Cheers, Kathy Hawley
